An Thoi and the south islands
The southern tip of Phu Quoc is where every island boat leaves from. It also holds the Hon Thom cable car, Sunset Town and the prison relic site, and it is the pickup zone with the shortest ride to the pier.

What the south actually is
An Thoi is a working port town that has grown a resort district around it. The pier is where the island boats queue in the morning; a few minutes away, Sunset Town is a purpose-built area with the cable car station, the Kiss Bridge and a night market. Along the east side, Bai Khem holds large resorts. The contrast is sharp: fishing boats and concrete in the port, new architecture and ticketed attractions a short drive south.
Offshore lies the An Thoi archipelago, the small islands most day tours visit: Hon Mong Tay and Hon Gam Ghi for snorkelling, Hon May Rut Trong and Ngoai for lunch, and Hon Thom, with the Sun World park. These islands are busy in the dry season; you share the lunch beaches with other boats.

The islands and Hon Thom
Gam Ghi has coral close to shore, which is why it is a snorkel stop; tours provide masks, snorkels and life vests. Hon Thom has two zones in the Sun World park, the Aquatopia water park with 20 slide lanes and the Exotica village, which includes a wooden roller coaster and a 360° lookout, plus sea activities such as snorkelling, kayaking and parasailing.
The cable car from Sunset Town to Hon Thom opened on 4 February 2018. It is 7,899.9 m long, the Guinness record for a non-stop three-rope cable car, with 6 towers and cabins for 30 people; the ride takes about 15 minutes. It runs year-round but stops in strong wind.

Sunset Town in the evening
The Kiss Bridge (Cầu Hôn) was designed by the Italian architect Marco Casamonti and opened in December 2023; its two curved arms stop about 30 cm apart. On 1 January each year the setting sun lines up with the gap. A jet-ski and flyboard show runs in front of the bridge daily at 17:00 for about 15 minutes, and the Kiss of the Sea multimedia show is reported at 21:00 nightly.
The Vui Phet night market, by the beach in Sunset Town, opens 16:00 to 24:00 with more than 100 stalls. It is a different market from the one in Duong Dong. A free shuttle runs 18:00 to 21:30, and the buggy costs 15,000 VND per person.

When to come, and how long to stay
For the islands, November to April. From May afternoons get choppier and boats leave earlier; in September some routes are suspended, and island-hopping is often unreliable in September and October. April is hot, with midday temperatures often 34 to 36 °C.
As a base for day tours, two to three nights in the An Thoi zone suit a stay built around the sea: one boat day, a spare day in case the sea says no, and an evening at Sunset Town. Fewer nights and you are back to 40 to 50 minutes each way to Duong Dong for dinner every evening.

Getting here and around
From Duong Dong the road south takes about 40 to 50 minutes; Sunset Town is about 20 to 30 minutes by car from Duong Dong or the airport. Grab and metered taxis work across the island; an airport transfer by Grab is quoted at around 120,000 VND. Scooters rent for about 150,000 to 250,000 VND a day, but foreign riders need a 1968-convention international permit with a home motorcycle licence.

Day tours from here
The south islands speedboat day leaves from the An Thoi pier at about 09:00, and An Thoi guests are collected last, from 08:20. The south heritage half day visits the prison here. On nights when the west coast is rough, the squid boat may leave from the An Thoi side instead of Duong Dong.

When to skip the south
- If your only days are in September or October and the islands are the reason to come.
- If you want an untouched fishing port; An Thoi is a busy harbour next to a large resort development.
- If you are staying in Bai Dai for two nights and want one easy outing; the north road day is closer.
Common questions

Which night market is closer to An Thoi?
Vui Phet in Sunset Town, open 16:00 to 24:00. The Duong Dong night market is in town on the west coast.
